MILLBROOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Millbrook Elementary School is a 20 classroom addition located in Aiken, SC. The project included major site improvements, such as parking, a new stacking drive, modifications to the bus loop, and new playground space. A new media center was added in the existing building, along with other minor renovations. The building was also occupied throughout construction, requiring detailed phasing plans, thorough coordination on site to ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors during construction.

At Millbrook Elementary School, the existing building lacked a clear point of entry and the existing site circulation, both vehicular and pedestrian, was inefficient, far too spread out, and posed security concerns. The campus also lacked presence from the main road.
The mission for this project was very simple; provide a 20 classroom addition.
The new classroom addition was designed in such a way that not only did it address the simple need of additional classroom space, but it also created a clearly defined, singular point of entry to the school, created efficient and secure circulation throughout the campus, and greatly improved site circulation with a new stacking drive and bus loop, both adjoining a new central plaza. The new addition also redefined Millbrook Elementary School's image along East Pine Log road.
CHECK OUT THE TRANSFORMATION
A new entry lobby provides a secure entrance vestibule, while also welcoming visitors in a warm, dynamic environment.
The new central stair acts as a hub between classroom wings where students can interact or they can stop and have a seat.
All of the new classrooms in the school received new, flexible furniture, allowing teachers to design the way that they want to teach in their classrooms. And in addition to the 20 classrooms that were added, a new administrative wing was added to the school, providing much needed visibility of student drop-off and pick-up.
