ST. MARY MAGDALENE CATHOLIC CHURCH
PARISH LIFE BUILDING
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, located on a 23-acre campus in Simpsonville, SC, is the one of the largest Catholic Churches by attendance in the State of South Carolina. Despite the large size of the church, the campus was greatly lacking in crucial spaces to support their many ministries, athletic clubs, youth organizations, and preschool; the new Parish Life Building was the solution to this lack of space. The new multipurpose building includes a variety of meeting spaces and classrooms, as well as a full-size gymnasium, gathering hall for banquets and events, and a full commercial kitchen. The exterior massing and materiality of the new facility complement the aesthetic of the surrounding buildings on the church's campus.

Despite active athletics programs, the church did not have an on-campus gymnasium, and resorted to renting gymnasiums at nearby churches for athletic events; the Parish Life Building finally provided this valuable asset to the campus. The new facility features a full size gymnasium with a middle school sized basketball court with six motorized folding basketball goals, removable volleyball net, and telescoping bleachers. At the head of the gymnasium is a large elevated platform with motorized curtain, 20’ retractable projection screen, and a theatrical lighting and sound system. Adjacent to the gymnasium is a large commercial kitchen with serving window into the gymnasium. The kitchen features a full cooking line with hood, serving line, dish-washing room, and walk-in cooler.
